For the second EOTO I was the student listening to my classmates take on the teacher role.

Jim Crow Era

Starting in 1890 sundown towns- also known as "graytowns"- all-white municipalities or neighborhoods in the United States that practice a form of segregation by excluding forbidding anyone who wasn't white from the towns.

Poll Taxes

These were fees that were required to pay to be able to vote. It limited the amount of black voters there was because most African Americans couldn't find work or get hired. It applied to all people, making it seem more unifying but really the government knew that this would for sure exclude the black people.

Literacy Tests

Another thing everyone had to take. Black people were mostly not educated so once again this was a "right" that they had but really it will never get them anywhere. The difficulty of the tests could also be chosen by the administrators, and if one question is wrong... you're out!

Lynching

Lynching was done to spread fear amongst all of the African Americans. These were public hanging events where everyone would gather and watch. It's pretty messed up. White poeple would find joy when attending these events, they would laugh and cheer it on. I am appalled.
